Avilution Awarded Contract to Provide DO-178C Artifacts Docs for XFS

Avilution LLC, a company that was awarded multiple Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contracts for its enterprise eXtensible Flight System (XFS) technology,  has recently been awarded a $2.5M SBIR Phase III contract from the U.S. Army Program Executive Office - Aviation, Redstone Arsenal,  to produce the DO-178C artifacts and documentation for supporting an eventual XFS Airworthiness Certification. Army Aviation has been progressing towards Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) solutions over the past decade, but has now made a giant leap in supporting XFS.  XFS’ innovative configuration-based approach, enables the ability to rapidly solve problems and to integrate new components into open and closed environments, all while lowering costs yet accelerating the fielding of new capabilities for America’s Warfighters. XFS’ new approach to avionics and mission systems integration addresses MOSA and software defined solutions today, making the platforms more adaptable to  pressing operational requirements. Rather than the traditional approach of requiring custom software changes for each new capability, Avilution’s XFS software is built more like a spreadsheet application, where the same program can be adapted by the user to a wide variety of business needs.

Avilution is revolutionizing avionics and mission systems across civilian and government applications to enable a new generation of aerial vehicles (crewed and uncrewed),  preserve the value of legacy aircraft, and help improve the cost, simplicity, and safety of flying for everyone. Instead of single function avionics computers, Avilution is reenvisioning a world in which many of the technological advances that power our personal computers and mobile devices can be applied to the unique, safety-critical requirements of avionics. The result will be greatly reduced cost and increased speed of introducing new capability. Moreover, this reconfigurability permits a broader number of integrators, beyond just Avilution, to provide enhancements to aircraft that use XFS.  Avilution looks forward to providing maximum benefit to our Government customers.
